 The physical aspect of your visual performance with Teal Sound is vital. So, as you audition to be a part of our drum corps, here is what we will ask you to do:
Physical Requirements:
1. Run one lap around a track at a consistent rate -(1 laps equals 400 meters). Not looking for speed, but this should be accomplished at a "normal" jogging pace...The ability to sustain a high intense aerobic activity for an extended period of time is what you are demonstrating to us through this.
2. Flexibility exercises to demonstrate your abilities to handle level changes and balance responsibilities
3. Strength exercises to verify your ability to hold up brass instruments (especially low brass auditionees)
Marching Requirements:
1. Forward and backwards marching at tempos ranging from 80bpm to 200 bpm.
2. Changes of direction (forward to slides, slides to backup, etc.)
3. Exercises to illustrate an awareness of interval (spatial relationships)
If you are unable to complete the physical aspect of this audition right now, work on it! Get yourself in shape before we see you. The requirements listed above are the absolute bare minimum physical abilities you need to have to be a part of this drum corps. All auditionees (including returning veterans) are expected to be able to accomplish these objectives. We will then expect you to improve these basic abilities through the winter camps and obviously during tour as you work through our physical training program. The marching portion of this audition will not focus on you adhering to our technique...we will teach you that. We are more concerned during the marching audition that you demonstrate an ability to sustain pulse, upper body control, and projection in the exercises we will put you through. All marching exercises will be done while holding the instrument you are auditioning on.
